Take it away tutorials

Want to learn to play some classic tracks from the comfort of your own home? We've got just the thing for you.

Take it away tutorials give you the chance to pick up your musical instrument and get playing some great tracks with the help of our interactive lessons.

The exclusive tracks that you can access for free are:

  • Take That's Back for Good
  • Motown classic Heard it Through The Grapevine
  • Deep Purple's classic Smoke on the Water
  • Soul sensation Dancing in the Street
  • Rock track Wild Thing

The tracks have been produced by 3FireMusic, a company that specialise in providing online music tutorials with the use of their unique 'bandplayer' software. The bandplayer enables you to learn the part for your instrument as well as seeing and hearing the parts played by the rest of the band. You can isolate any part of the track you want, allowing you to play along with your chosen instrument. You can then introduce the other parts to play along with. It's like having a music teacher and a band to jam with all at the same time!

How do I get started?

All you have to do is visit this webpage and register your details*. You can then browse the songs on offer and click on the names of the tracks to access your chosen tutorials.

Do I need to download any special software?

There's no need to download any special software. The tracks are just streamed live through your computer.

Are the tracks difficult to play?

The tracks vary in difficulty so it doesn't matter if you are a beginner or the next Jimi Hendrix, there will be something that will match your ability.

You can also control which parts of the track you see and hear and also the speed of the track, enabling you to learn at a slower pace before jamming to the track at full speed.

You can also use the button on the bottom left of the player to control which section of the song you wish to skip to. So if you're having trouble with 'that solo' after the chorus or want to make sure you have the introduction absolutely nailed, you can skip to that part straight away.

What instrument parts have they been arranged for?

All songs have been arranged for the following core instruments, but can also be adapted for other types of instrument as required:

  • Guitar
  • Bass Guitar
  • Keyboard
  • Drums
  • Vocal
